Chicago Criminal Defense Lawyer Michael Leonard on WGN’s Let’s Get Legal on Saturday January 18, 2025. Mike joined host Jon Hansen, the host of “Let’s Get Legal,” this week-end. Mike brought his expertise in criminal and civil jury trials to bear. Mike and Jon covered a wide range of legal issues and topics. Their discussion included a discussion of the recent cross-examination of former Illinois Speaker Michael Madigan by Federal prosecutors in that trial. Mike shared his insight into preparing a client/defendant to withstand cross-examination at trial.
Mike and Jon were also fortunate to be able to respond to numerous listener calls. One former Cook County, Illinois based attorney inquired about, and shared his experience with, practicing in civil cases at the Daley Center. Mike and the attorney caller agreed that, because of the changes in Court hearings and appearances at the Daley Center, much has been lost – including with regard to face-to-face time between opposing attorneys, and such in-person interactions with the Judges at the Daley Center.
Other calls addressed, among other subjects, the purposes of cross-examination at trial, and preparing young lawyers and law students to be lawyers.
Finally, one caller expressed her frustrations with her recent jury service in a civil negligence trial in the State of Wisconsin. Because of the language of the Jury Instructions provided to the jurors in that trial, the caller believed that the jury reached an unfair and wrong result.
