Best Chicago criminal defense lawyer Michael Leonard of Chicago-based Leonard Trial Lawyers will be one of the featured speakers at the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers 2022 Violent Crimes seminar. The seminar is entitled, “Defending Violent Crimes in a Post Pandemic World.” The event will be held, in-person, at the Chicago-Kent College of Law auditorium on Friday, November 18, 2022. Michael Leonard of Leonard Trial Lawyers will address his recent experiences in representing high-profile criminal defendants in federal criminal prosecutions in the United States Northern District of Illinois (Chicago) and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri (St. Louis). Those cases include one in which the defendant, deemed by the press as the “Joker” because of his “Joker” mask, was a participant in the recent Chicago riots arising out of the George Floyd controversy. That defendant was accused of, inter alia, arson connected to destruction of a Chicago police department vehicle. The other featured case involved a defendant who was the star of a reality television series, “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” that played for a number of years on the Oprah Winfrey (OWN) television network. In that case, the defendant was accused of taking part in a murder-for-hire scheme that purportedly targeted a fellow cast member. The seminar will also feature presentations and discussions on ghost guns; understanding the drivers of urban gun violence; social media slights, clout chasing, and drill culture; reforming the felony murder law in Illinois; and representing clients charged with under the Pretrial Fairness Act.
