Nation’s Best Federal Criminal Lawyer Appears on Let’s Get Legal on Saturday February 15, 2025. Mike Leonard joined host Jon Hansen to wrap up his weekly legal show on WGN radio 720. Jon and Mike recapped and analyzed the jury’s verdict in the Michael Madigan trial.
Mike had predicted an all-defense verdict. However, the verdict did not turn out that way with Mr. Madigan found guilty on 10 Counts, not guilty on 7 Counts, and the jury hung on 6 other Counts. Mike explained that federal prosecutors prevailed on the Counts that required the most straightforward and simple stories.
Mike explained the next steps for former Speaker Madigan, which will include, among other things, the filing of post-trial motions, the submission of lengthy sentencing memos and ultimately a sentencing hearing. Mike stressed that the trial Judge, Federal District Court Judge Blakey, will have to consider a wide variety of factors in fashioning Madigan’s sentence – including his advanced age as well as submissions made to the Court on his behalf.
Jon and Mike also pivoted to discuss the upcoming expected dismissal of all charges against Mayor Eric Adams in New York. They delve into the controversial circumstances surrounding Federal prosecutors’ motion to dismiss, including the outright refusal of numerous prosecutors to file or join that motion.
