Mike and Jon also addressed a number of listener calls and texts about the January 6 cases. These inquiries included then President-elect Trump’s stated intention to issue pardons for the January 6 defendants, a promise he ultimately fulfilled on his first day back in office, when he signed a proclamation granting clemency to approximately 1,583 federally charged defendants. Roughly 1,500 received full pardons, while the remaining 14, primarily leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers convicted of seditious conspiracy, received commutations of their sentences rather than outright pardons. Mike provided critical context to that strategy and explained how the January 6 defendants, including his own clients, are not all similarly situated, a distinction that proved legally significant given the difference between a pardon and a commutation under federal law.

What the show underscored is, despite the fact that people regularly complain about serving on juries and talk about how to avoid getting seated on them, the experience of being on a jury is clearly always memorable – and one that people most often view in a favorable light.
