Michael Leonard of Leonard Trial Lawyers takes case to bench trial in Circuit Court of Cook County. In early February 2023, trial lawyer Michael Leonard represented his client in a bench trial in the Circuit Court of Cook County before Judge Mullen. The client was a former employee of a Chicago-based company in which she held a five percent ownership interest. The client had been terminated by the company, and the company valued the former employee’s interest in the company at a value that the former employee claimed was inadequate. At trial, Mr. Leonard vigorously and effectively cross-examined the company’s witnesses regarding the steps the company took, and did not take, to value the finer employee’s ownership interest in the company. In addition, Mr. Leonard presented the testimony of the former employee by way of direct examination. Mr. Leonard also called as a witness at trial an expert to provide testimony regarding the true value of the former employee’s ownership interest in the company. The parties are still awaiting the trial Judge’s ruling and opinion in the case. Although Michael Leonard and Leonard Trial Lawyers often take Federal and State court criminal trials to jury verdict, they also regularly try civil cases to verdict before juries and Judges. In addition, to trying civil cases to verdict in the Circuit of Cook County, the Circuit Court of Lake County, the Circuit Court of of DuPage County, and the Circuit Court of Kane County, Mr. Leonard has also tried civil cases in State Court in Indiana; in Federal Court in Indiana; in State Court in California; and in Federal Courts in Virginia and Kansas.
